Annual Postal Service Guide, Yearbook Published

Two new guides from the U.S. Postal Service, published by Harper Collins, may be on the holiday wish list of your favorite philatelist.

Shown at right, the 29th edition of The Postal Service Guide to U.S. Stamps is targeted towards what the Postal Service claims are 'an estimated twenty million stamp enthusiasts in the United States.'

Issued by the USPS, this pocket-width paperback is the only color field guide on the market. It lists, describes and supplies values for virtually every U.S. stamp and postal stationery product ever issued.

Priced around $23, the guide contains useful information for beginners about starting, building, and organizing a collection, the different kinds of stamps, removing stamps from envelopes, collecting first-day covers and selecting and using albums and other materials and accessories.

The 2002 Commemorative Stamp Yearbook is described as 'the United States Postal Service's annual tribute to the year's commemorative postage stamps. This special full-color gift book highlights the fascinating stories behind each stamp subject.'

Priced at $25, the full-color book offers insight into the process by which stamps are designed. Each stamp is shown in color and identified with its date and place of official issue, illustrator or photographer, designer and art director.
